Family Support Group

This group is for family members, partners and siblings affected by addiction in the home. Individual support is also afford for those who are unable to attend the group.

Group Day & Time: Thursday 5pm-7pm

Venue: Online Zoom Meeting

We offer a service that is open, friendly, confidential, accessible and non-judgmental. Our group adheres to best practice guidelines as directed by the National Family Support Network by delivering sessions structured around the Afinet 5 Step method. This method is grounded in rigorous research and has a clear theoretical model which can be applied in a group or one to one setting.

We believe that no family has to live with the isolation that drug and alcohol use can bring. Our experienced facilitators, Marie Dunne and Janet Lawler have a breadth of experience supporting families, partners and siblings impacted by addiction in the home. Community Response has been providing supportive and peer-led services for families for over 30 years and at the heart of this service lies a commitment to ensuring family members are given space to tell their story, develop skills, seek ways of coping and explore sources of support.

The following are a list of some of the support available:

  • Referral to external services, councelling/family therapy etc.
  • Substance based bereavement support
  • Information and advice on the Garda Siochana drug related intimidation reporting programme
  • Throughout the year we offer sessions on understanding addiction, the impact on the family and the importance of self care when living with addiction
